GIRO, DROPLINE MTB Goggle
Drawing on our experience designing premium Snow goggles, the Dropline goggle was designed to be Giro's first premium MTB goggle, .
During the early development stage I dissected every competitor goggle I could get my hands to understand the construction methods and differences between every Moto and Snow goggle i could find.
The first feature we wanted in this goggle was a fuss-free, "fingerprints-on-the-lens"-free lens-change system.
After several iterations of multiple concepts, I landed on the simple post-snap design Giro uses on several Snow goggle models (Article II, Contour, Axis).
To help make the lens-change operation less messy. and keep fingerprints off the lens, I added molded-pads in the snap areas.
This gives the user touchpoints to press the lens in or out without getting their fingers on the lens.
To make the lens change system work, we needed a robust, stiff goggle while still providing flexibility in the right places.
As such, the frame is a co-molded construction, similar to moto-goggle construction.
The majority of the goggle body is a soft TPU flange, to provide a compliant fit to wide range of face shapes.
The face of the goggle is a rigid polycarbonate frame. This provides a rigid surface to mount the Lens and Outriggers while also providing a durable material for the female-snap geometry.
The shape of the Goggle body was designed to fit seamlessly with the helmet dropline of the Coalition and Insurgent models.
We added ample outriggers to allow the goggle to sit deep into the face-port of the helmet and direct the goggle strap at just the right angle
The face of the goggle-frame has an EVA gasket to provide a seal between the Lens and Frame.

Simple snap-posts provide a robust, effective fastening solution. The same system has proven effective on the Giro Snow goggles for years.
The rigid polycarbonate outer frame provides a durable female-snap for the lens snap-posts.
Molded pads are provided in the snap-areas on the inner and outer surfaces of the Lens to provide a touch-point for the user during the lens-change system.

A molded pad is placed in the snap-area to give the user a touchpoint to pop the Lens out without getting their fingerprints on the Lens.

A molded pad is placed in the snap-area to give the user a touchpoint to push the Lens in without getting their fingerprints on the Lens.

The goggle flange (Black) is molded in a soft TPU to fit a wide range of face-shapes. The outer frame (White) is molded in poly carbonate to provide a stiff, yet compliant carrier for the Lens, Lens-change snap-features, and Outriggers
